Education:
Graduated in 2000 with BA Honours in Performing Arts and Drama from Middlesex University.
Freema also took theatre courses at Radford University in Virginia, USA in 1998.
Her secondary school was Our Lady's Convent in Amhurst Park, Stamford Hill and she attended the Anna Scher Theatre School in Islington during the summer of 1996.

Family:
Though her parents divorced when she was young, Freema is close with her mother and her father lives nearby. She has a younger brother, Domenic, and older sister, Leila. Her mother, Azar, is Iranian and her father, Osei, is Ghanaian.

Freema has a boyfriend that she met just before she got the part of Martha Jones on Doctor Who.
