RTD says in aprils SFX magazine that the doctor does'nt trust U.N.I.T then why on earth would he get Martha a job with them hmmm confused :x

AU aussiewho 1 month ago | #

Hmm..confusing yes.
I guess getting Martha a job with UNIT on a medical front could be different to UNIT on a military front? Like, maybe he doesn't trust them on a military and strategic basis rather than medical? He knows Martha wouldn't be stupid enough to get caught up in any funny business with UNIT, but I can see where you're coming from. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

I'm confused too... I didnt like the way UNIT treated Tosh in Torchwood Fragments... I hope theyve changed since 5 yrs ago... Oh, I cant wait for Series 4!!! :x :D :) :P :D

also the way U.N.I.T was portrayed in fragments does'nt seem that martha would be happy with that aspect of U.N.I.T

Like the avatar allons-y989! Next Friday/Saturday!
I didn't like the way UNIT was portrayed in Fragments either; I guess that would a glimpse into what the Doctor obviously doesn't like about them. Hopefully they've changed, and perhaps maybe Martha's presence could have changed the organisation some too?

Maybe the recomendation wasn't from the Doctor after all... Maybe someone different... Maybe someone from series Four?

found this on life on martha community http://community.livejournal.com/lifeonmartha/ 8)

OMG... I wonder if they are playing on the idea that UNIT have become bad/against the Doctor. I hate the idea that they might be using Martha against the Doctor.

I think that it is possible that Martha and Jack got it wrong that the 'impeccable source' which recommended Martha to UNIT was the Doctor - if the Doctor didnt agree with the way UNIT did things (with guns etc), then why would he be happy with Martha working for them??! I dont think Martha would want to work for UNIT if she knew that they held innocent people without trial (aka Toshiko), Martha just isnt the sort of person who would sit back and let that happen...

This also gives Tosh an excuse for being absent at Marthas leaving scene, and not being especially friendly towards her - Martha was introduced to her as a UNIT girl, so its only natural that she would be wary of her...

 Maybe like an enemy recommended martha into unit someone who appears in the series finale maybe one of davros's aliances???

GB allons-y989 1 month ago | #

^^Yeah thats a possibility^^ I was thinking that too...

GB sharpay121 1 month ago | #

And if the finale is set in the past like rumoured... Ouch! My Head!

like the master having tish as his pa

GB sharpay121 1 month ago | #

^^^ exactly! so, maybe Martha hasnt been recruited by UNIT under the Doctors reccomendation, but by the series bad guy!

AU aussiewho 1 month ago | #

Whoa, that's so possible! Well, perhaps they saw how popular and successful the whole Master storyline was in the last series.. oh jeeze. When Lucy's hand picked up the ring in the final ep, that left a gap open; maybe she's seeking revenge on the Doctor/Time Lords in general and somehow alligned with Davros, or maybe is doing it off her own back?!

EEEK! Cos all UNIT would have to know is that a Time Lord recommended Martha, which Lucy could fabricate by using the Master or something seeing as UNIT wouldn't have known about the Year That Never Was.

This is an interesting discussion.
I agree completely that the lack of interaction between Martha and Tosh on TW can now be seen to be because of Tosh's treatment at the hands of UNIT only a few years earlier. Her suspicion of anything connected to UNIT would know no bounds.
Regarding who was behind recommending Martha to UNIT, though, I'm still uncertain: it does seem to be a bit of a mystery.
