i heard billie on jonathan ross talk about freema and she was completely joking. That interview is horrible. The interviewer is searching for negative things about freema or where she grew up and whats with the last question? its not just black people

I agree, that is just vile, the way some people are so keen to find bad things about anyone. Freema handled it very well, but she must have been uncomfortable.

Well the interviewer herself is black, so I guess she felt qualified to ask some more personal/sensitive questions. Billie was indeed completely joking, we have that appearance around here somewhere but it may be offline right now.

“When you do fantastically well, will you go off to America like all the other black actors do? “

you know it’s hard for us over here too acting wise. there aren’t enough roles.

–still say it’s a shame all people see is what we look like. geez.

the interview was ok. i wished i had been the interviewer.

To be fair to Hannah, the point of this particular interview column which appears every week in The Guardian is that she does employ a far more aggressive, journalistic style when addressing people from the pop culture arena. An ideal example would be the one with Stephen Merchant, were he’s obviously blindsided by her bluntness.

Actually I found it quite refreshing to see an interview that did cover ground not seen elsewhere and outside the realm of the series in particular. I’ve not read how the question of a companion’s race might effect a story addressed in other interviews although it is a shame that Mickey’s status has been covered up. Again.

I think what you have to love is that Freema held up to the challenge and gave some beautifully intelligent answers which proves that she can be serious and fun and is adaptable in these kinds of situations. That’s probably the key to a great actress and certainly underlines what a good choice she’s been.

yea, but why did race have to even come up? to me ever since it was announced that she would be the new companion the media seemed to be hung up on her race. we can see she’s black and ok, so what. yes, Freema did handle the interview quite well it shows she has a good head on her shoulders. this interview almost consisted entirely about her race. could’ve talked about a little of that and other things as well. ??? too mich hang ups to me.
