An exact number is now known:
Freema Agyeman will appear in five of the 13 episodes of Doctor Who series four in 2008 as Martha Jones.
Our best guess is she will be coming onboard midway
and staying (at least) though the finale.

Pickup the July issue of Glamour magazine (UK edition) at your newsagent to check out Freema looking quite stunning.
This was a followup photoshoot for winning the “Newcomer of the Year” award.
(Freema nearly broke her ankle looking this good when they made her walk on the sand in high heels!)

Freema’s character Martha Jones will be featured in the first new Doctor Who comic book series to be published later this year! The comic will be written by Gary Russell, drawn by Nick Roche and published by IDW. Here are some quotes from an interview with the team making this happen:
“I adore Martha Jones and find writing for her great fun…”
“Can’t get enough Martha. As for Tennant, ‘cos he’s the current one, simple as that. It’s about putting characters from one medium into a totally different, and utilizing the strengths (and weaknesses) the new medium has to offer. So I gain from a bigger budget, more extras and louder bangs…”

Last Wednesday Freema was interviewed by BBC Persian and spoke a little Farsi (her mum’s language) at the beginning and end of the eight minute segment.
Not unexpectedly, there is a heavy overdub into Farsi for the rest of the piece so it’s impossible to hear what she is saying in English but if any fans can translate for us, we’d love to know what she talked about.
(It’s probably her own personal clothing but that outfit is looking rather Torchwood-like!)

In an interview with Doctor Who Magazine, Russell T. Davies promises mild dialog for Freema in her upcoming role on Torchwood:
“…there is no sex or swearing with [Martha] in Torchwood ‘cos there will be some kids watching … literally we sit there with a script taking swearwords out of Martha’s lines sometimes.”
“When Martha comes into Torchwood, a huge story kicks off that covers three episodes and she’s very involved in that. She comes in as a bit of an expert.”
“It doesn’t last long, but there’s a bit of an attitude. There’s a nice feisty relationship between her and Owen.”

The new Martha Jones 12 inch action figure based on Freema’s character has appeared and promptly sold out it’s first run, though shops expect more in August, eventually.
