Doctor Who Magazine #386 goes on sale from Thursday 23 August 2007, priced £3.99.
This issue, Doctor Who’s head writer and executive producer Russell T Davies talks candidly about his plans for the Christmas Special and Series Four…
“This year’s Christmas Special was always going to have a one-off companion, little knowing that it would be Kylie! I like the Christmas-ness of a one-off. As you’ll see, there’s a whole new take – again – on what a companion can be…”
Russell reveals secrets concerning the return of ‘Runaway Bride’ Donna… “She gives us the chance to be blunt about things, and be gobsmacked by things. Of course, she’ll still be brave and heroic sometimes, and she’ll save the Doctor’s life, but equally… for example, there’s one episode where they land on an alien planet, and the first thing she does is go back in the TARDIS to find the right coat!”
Also in the mag, Barry Newbery, Doctor Who designer during the 60s, 70s and 80s, is given a VIP tour of Upper Boat in Cardiff where the series is now filmed; the Fact of Fiction looks at the Master’s very first appearance in Terror of the Autons; Edward Thomas gives an in-depth insight into production design; and the Doctor and Martha begin a new comic strip adventure, The First. Plus, the Time Team reflect upon the Fifth Doctor’s final stories, Gareth Roberts pens Production Notes and there’s a bumper edition of the Space Time Telegraph!
Plus, of course, there’s all the latest exclusive casting news from BBC Wales, an exclusive new pic of the Doctor and Donna, a review of the three-part series finale, and all your usual favourites! Don’t miss it!
Thanks for the update
One more thing for me to buy
Ooh,I am gonna get that 4 sure, thanks editor!
im getin it dnt know for sure cause i collect adventures most of time and magazine sometimes,so mite and mite not
Me too. But obviously, I’ll get it much later than the rest of you! Isn’t tht a great shot of the Doc, Jack and Martha on the cover?
Cant wait!!!!
Im getin that!!!!
lol, that cover. Jack was rather on the touchy-feely/sympathetic side with Martha in his three eps this season. I keep wondering if that’s deliberate of it’s suddenly going to be a completely different story when she guests on Torchwwood.
Love the cover though, and I always love Freema’s expressions
Hi ghost!
I suspect that was RTD attempting to further the cause of his unrequited love storyline by having Martha and Jack relate to each other from similar standpoints (”Oh she was blonde, was she?”, “You, too, huh?”).
PS As I said in my post awaiting moderation, I am not convinced promoting Donna’s bluntness, ‘gobsmacked’ nature and concern for her coat is going to have me pining any less over the absence of the intelligent, educated and classy Martha.
Awesome cant wait for that.
The magazine is so long tho, it takes me the whole month the read the blimin’ thing!
Oh well every word is like magic to me
But I Am SERIOUSLY Looking Forward To Series Four, I Hope They Write Donna In As A Sort-Of Comedy Character
I assumed it was the ‘unrequited’ sympathy too, though there are a few things in those eps that make me lean towards Jack being a little more than simply sympathetic. But then, Jack *is* Jack after all.
I’m kind of mixed on S4. I was excited before but I have reservations given some of the undercurrents of not just this season but previous ones. I think I’m just really waiting for the Martha eps and hoping that they write her properly and as important (rather just saying they have while all that’s onscreen points to the opposite). I have a strong feeling that if they mess her up it would be the last straw for me and this show.
