First Photo of Freema with Team Torchwood

Martha Jones is reunited with Captain Jack Harkness as she teams up with Torchwood to help them solve a series of mysterious deaths in Cardiff - coming to BBC Two in January - we can’t wait, she looks fantastic!

New face for Torchwood, New look for Martha

Pictured here as she steps into the Hub for the first time, a more grown up and worldly-wise Martha brings her medical knowledge and the expertise learnt during her travels with The Doctor to help Torchwood do battle against an alien threat.

Freema Agyeman says: “Martha has grown up a lot since Doctor Who. She’s now a fully qualified doctor and a bit hardened by life experiences. When she finds out that Captain Jack needs her help, she joins Torchwood for a while. She continues to develop her knowledge of alien intelligence, but this time keeping her feet on the ground.

“These will be invaluable skills to take back with her on future adventures with The Doctor. She outgrew The Doctor, in a sense, and so the next time they meet it will be in a more professional capacity. I’m so proud of her journey and who she has become.

“And for me as an actress, it’s a great new challenge to be able to broaden and expand Martha as she develops in other directions for this more adult series. The Torchwood team are fabulous to work with and have made me very welcome.”

Creator of Torchwood, Russell T Davies, says: “Freema is a wonderful actress and we want to give her the chance to add another dimension to Martha. She is going to cause some waves in the team – especially as she joins Torchwood at a point when everything is going to change for one of them.”

Freema is one of many special guest stars appearing in the new series of Torchwood.

Richard Briers is the latest to join the line-up, playing Parker, a reclusive millionaire who is the keeper of alien secrets, much later in the series.

Alan Dale (Ugly Betty, Lost) and James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) have also been confirmed.

The second series of Torchwood begins on BBC Two in the New Year and Martha will be starring half way through the series, appearing in three episodes.

Torchwood is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales. The producer is Richard Stokes and the series is filmed in Cardiff.

I am an afican american and I have followed Doctor Who since Jon Pertwee with Tom Bkaer being my favorite. After Tom to me seems that Doctor Who went down hill. Then I didn’t see the show anywhere until the movie came out with the eighth doctor. I thought it was a horrible and didn’t do the series justice. Then after a few years I saw it advertised on the Sci-Fi channel and thought well, here we go again with more sub-par episodes. I watched it and said it was pretty good and it kept getting better and better. Then I saw Freema and I said ,Who is that?!!! I was shocked to see a black woman after all these years then she was killed off . I said ,of course someone really black and beautiful gets killed which happens alot in american television or movies. Then I saw her as a regular and that hooked me. I know that she is British and has a different background as african americans and may not understand how we feel when we see one of ours succeed, but
I was pround to see that. In america she would be considered a sistah, I don’t know how she feels about that in Great Britain. Be we say”You Go Girl”. I am very dissappointed that she is leaving and will come back for approx. 4-5 episodes for next season, I shall miss her character dearly. I won’t be able to see her on Torchwood because we won’t get that. My experience with Doctor Who in the past have liked a character that will soon be written off some how. I know that probrably her days are numbered because she may go on to other things but its good to have her now. I’ll enjoy her while I can eventhough my wife thinks I’m a loser for liking the show. I hope she won’t leave the show, but its a business.

WOW! She looks so sexy there! brill new look a lot sexier than in Doc Who even though she looked sexy in that as well Tosh and Gwen (sorry don’t know actresses names) are also both VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN!O MY GOD!! I can’t beleive how much I have changed my mind about Gwen i used to think she was a bit average but now I think shes HOT, FIT AND VERY VERY SEXY!!! I think maybe they tried to sex her up a bit more later in the 1st series and it definetly worked for me and looks like theres more of the same for the next series from the pic just look at the way she is just sitting there looking at the camera like no one else can! and she has got a very sexy welsh accent as well! i also think Tosh is VERY VERY VERY VERY HOT especially in that episode with the amulet that let her read peoples minds they obviously focussed on her being very sexy in that one but even so GWEN WAS SOOO HOT AND SEXY IN THAT ONE AS WELL!!I hope torchwood is going to be more sensible this time round I don’t mind a more adult spin-off of Doc Who but in the first series it seemed like they tried to hard with the sex and it just ended up looking a bit cheap overall but now its on bbc2 i think so it could possibly be more quality next time looks like torchwood is going to be one of the sexiest programmes on telly with martha gwen and tosh FREEMA AGYEMAN IS THE BEST DOC WHO COMPANION EVER I LOVE HER SOO MUCH! Billie Piper was good and very sexy as well but I think martha is still a lot better! GWEN IS FIT FIT FIT FIT!!!!!! Freema looks so lovely and delicious in that pic i’m not surprised so many people like her she is a brilliant actress and shes so pretty as well!

I’m what they call here, in America, from the old school. I was born in London and as a child watched Doc Who with the original Doctor. The Daleks scared me then but I loved the show anyway. I missed it for many years when I moved to Jamaica and then New York. Only now living in California I have reconnected with the Doctor. Initially I watched a couple earlier versions which I didn’t care for so I stopped. But now, with this Doctor and the addition of Freema I’m hooked. I love Torchwood too. As a matter of fact because of these two programmes I have started to watch BBCAmerica more often now than standard Tele. I only wish there were more shows to watch, it is such a pleasure to be reconnected to my birthplace again. I left when I was 9 and haven’t been back since. BBC America I say to you if you see this keep these shows coming.
