Martha Jones is reunited with Captain Jack Harkness as she teams up with Torchwood to help them solve a series of mysterious deaths in Cardiff - coming to BBC Two in January - we can’t wait, she looks fantastic!
New face for Torchwood, New look for Martha
Pictured here as she steps into the Hub for the first time, a more grown up and worldly-wise Martha brings her medical knowledge and the expertise learnt during her travels with The Doctor to help Torchwood do battle against an alien threat.
Freema Agyeman says: “Martha has grown up a lot since Doctor Who. She’s now a fully qualified doctor and a bit hardened by life experiences. When she finds out that Captain Jack needs her help, she joins Torchwood for a while. She continues to develop her knowledge of alien intelligence, but this time keeping her feet on the ground.
“These will be invaluable skills to take back with her on future adventures with The Doctor. She outgrew The Doctor, in a sense, and so the next time they meet it will be in a more professional capacity. I’m so proud of her journey and who she has become.
“And for me as an actress, it’s a great new challenge to be able to broaden and expand Martha as she develops in other directions for this more adult series. The Torchwood team are fabulous to work with and have made me very welcome.”
Creator of Torchwood, Russell T Davies, says: “Freema is a wonderful actress and we want to give her the chance to add another dimension to Martha. She is going to cause some waves in the team – especially as she joins Torchwood at a point when everything is going to change for one of them.”
Freema is one of many special guest stars appearing in the new series of Torchwood.
Richard Briers is the latest to join the line-up, playing Parker, a reclusive millionaire who is the keeper of alien secrets, much later in the series.
Alan Dale (Ugly Betty, Lost) and James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) have also been confirmed.
The second series of Torchwood begins on BBC Two in the New Year and Martha will be starring half way through the series, appearing in three episodes.
Torchwood is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales. The producer is Richard Stokes and the series is filmed in Cardiff.
Although i don’t usually watch torchwood… BUT I am sooooo watching the ones with her in it!
Martha looks DEAD SEXY!!
0doctorwhofreak0, wouldn’t that send a great message to the BBC. If the Torchwood episodes in which Freema appears, the viewership increases to double the normal. To bad we couldn’t arrange that! It may happen to a certain extent, but more than likely many more people will tune in to see the show simply because they know Freema will be in it at some point. More younger viewers may also be watching especially if the parents know the shows won’t be so adult at least the episodes in which Martha appears.
Thanks Myndmatters. And yes I’m very much on your side
I really feel that Freema is just one of them actresses who could be caught up in the rush. You know the “Thanks very much for making DW such a wonderful show but theres no room for you any longer”
Its strange but with her looks
you would think that FILM DIRECTORS would be falling over themselves just to hire her, both here and in the US. Oh well theres still time, but in another 6 months or so she may be looking for another job, I hope not
Anyway I hope that Freema looks on this Website, to see just how much we love her.
Tosh = Looks Improved. More Make Up This Season?
Ianto = Had His Hair Coloured? Looking Good.
Jack = Gorgeous. Hair A Little Longer?
Martha = Looks A Bit Evil To Me. Too Grown Up Now
Gwen = Stunner. Love The Hair Im So Jealous
Owen = Same.. Good Old Owen
DB I doubt freema would want to get movie roles based on her looks
No, she wouldn’t want to get the role solely because of her looks, but she sure desires the roles based on her acting ability. There are plenty of good looking actresses out there in the UK, the States amd elsewhere but not so many that can act their socks off like Freema. I think that’s what DB means. I do hope the BBC does right by her after this next season of Torchwood and Doctor Who. If they don’t, hopefully some producer in the UK or the States will scoop her up for a good role in a movie or a decent TV show.
Awesome pic!Freema looks stunning as always,I am soo gonna watch that!
Sorry for the editorial in my last post. It should have read, “No, she wouldn’t want to get the role solely because of her looks, but she sure DESERVES the roles based on her acting ability…”
Sorry Nicola and Klown, if my last post made it appear that Freema would get roles on her LOOKS ALONE!!!!
She is a VERY GOOD ACTRESS, who is also good looking.
It’s a very fair point indeed that no actor can make it for very long JUST ON LOOKS. The moment thay are Middle-age WHAT THEN? (However fantastic the person looks) I have said before that She has the power to hold a show together, And anyone who can do that is a great actor!! I love the way that her and DT seem to bounce off one another, really this takes two actors who are at the top of their game, no doubt about it.
