First Photo of Freema with Team Torchwood

Martha Jones is reunited with Captain Jack Harkness as she teams up with Torchwood to help them solve a series of mysterious deaths in Cardiff - coming to BBC Two in January - we can’t wait, she looks fantastic!

New face for Torchwood, New look for Martha

Pictured here as she steps into the Hub for the first time, a more grown up and worldly-wise Martha brings her medical knowledge and the expertise learnt during her travels with The Doctor to help Torchwood do battle against an alien threat.

Freema Agyeman says: “Martha has grown up a lot since Doctor Who. She’s now a fully qualified doctor and a bit hardened by life experiences. When she finds out that Captain Jack needs her help, she joins Torchwood for a while. She continues to develop her knowledge of alien intelligence, but this time keeping her feet on the ground.

“These will be invaluable skills to take back with her on future adventures with The Doctor. She outgrew The Doctor, in a sense, and so the next time they meet it will be in a more professional capacity. I’m so proud of her journey and who she has become.

“And for me as an actress, it’s a great new challenge to be able to broaden and expand Martha as she develops in other directions for this more adult series. The Torchwood team are fabulous to work with and have made me very welcome.”

Creator of Torchwood, Russell T Davies, says: “Freema is a wonderful actress and we want to give her the chance to add another dimension to Martha. She is going to cause some waves in the team – especially as she joins Torchwood at a point when everything is going to change for one of them.”

Freema is one of many special guest stars appearing in the new series of Torchwood.

Richard Briers is the latest to join the line-up, playing Parker, a reclusive millionaire who is the keeper of alien secrets, much later in the series.

Alan Dale (Ugly Betty, Lost) and James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) have also been confirmed.

The second series of Torchwood begins on BBC Two in the New Year and Martha will be starring half way through the series, appearing in three episodes.

Torchwood is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales. The producer is Richard Stokes and the series is filmed in Cardiff.

I cannot wait for January!
It is gonna be SO good!
This is a really good picture of all the team, and John looks scrummy! The only thing I don’t like about this pic is the way Ianto is behind everyone! I WANT MORE IANTO!
And isn’t Gwen’s ring a little too obvious? P

Anyone got a spare TARDIS so I can get to January quicker?

My Birthday’s in January - so it’d be great if this started around my Birthday - looking forward to this -as although the show started out rockily -got better from about Ep 9 onwards - in fact Ep 10 got a 10/10 from me - the one where the 3 people return from the 50’s - particularly Olivia “Sugar Rush” Hallinan’s performance and when Owen had to say goodbye to the female pilot I was in tears by the end as I thought all 3 of the guest cast gave really moving performances - esp the Dad who’s son had aged and had ended up in a home with Alzheimer’s .

Quite pertinient to me as my stepdad got dementia which developed into Alzheimer’s .

Anyway - although we only have 5 ep’s of Freema in Who (bummer ! ) @ least we have 3 of Torchwood - hope Freema becomes a permanent fixture either here or back in “Who” again.

And can we see Jack trying to “get it on ” with Martha grin shock huh

Freema looks like she is set to really rock the Torchwood crew. I wonder how busy it is going to be in the lab now with all of those personalities…

PLEASE don’t have her end up in bed with Owen! That would make me lose my dinner as well as my desire to follow the rest of the season.
Jack & Martha, hmmm maybe so, they would look great together…

Cheers!

Freema looks great in the picture but am I the only one who feels that she shouldn’t become a permanent part of the cast. To travel with the Doctor was the ultimate and to be relegated to Torchwood well in my eyes is second best. Although, it would be better for Martha to work for Torchwood on earth than to end up like Rose stuck in a parallel universe never to see earth again, although she also works for Torchwood and at least she won’t end up like Sarah Jane who in series 2 lived alone with K9 and had never had another man as none could match up to the Doctor.

Not long to go now until the NTA awards in September we’ll see here there along with David and Billie.

I know what you mean, cubahurrah, but the inescapable fact is that Martha will not be the primary companion in S4 of DW and she may be no more than a Captain Jack type figure. Given these circumstances, I just wonder if a permanent slot on TW might be a blessing in disguise for Freema (assuming she herself wanted it, of course).
The NTA awards are on 31 October (and we do not yet know if Freema has made the shortlist).
The TV Choice/TV Quick awards, for which Freema is definitely shortlisted, are on 3 September.

Juan_Valdez, don’t worry! This from Kasterborous.com: “The photo shows Martha lining up with Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Tosh and the slimy one. Kasterborous Forum marksmen are on hand to take Owen out if he lays a finger on the wonderful Dr. Jones.”
Not that I condone violence, of course!
