First Photo of Freema with Team Torchwood

Martha Jones is reunited with Captain Jack Harkness as she teams up with Torchwood to help them solve a series of mysterious deaths in Cardiff - coming to BBC Two in January - we can’t wait, she looks fantastic!

New face for Torchwood, New look for Martha

Pictured here as she steps into the Hub for the first time, a more grown up and worldly-wise Martha brings her medical knowledge and the expertise learnt during her travels with The Doctor to help Torchwood do battle against an alien threat.

Freema Agyeman says: “Martha has grown up a lot since Doctor Who. She’s now a fully qualified doctor and a bit hardened by life experiences. When she finds out that Captain Jack needs her help, she joins Torchwood for a while. She continues to develop her knowledge of alien intelligence, but this time keeping her feet on the ground.

“These will be invaluable skills to take back with her on future adventures with The Doctor. She outgrew The Doctor, in a sense, and so the next time they meet it will be in a more professional capacity. I’m so proud of her journey and who she has become.

“And for me as an actress, it’s a great new challenge to be able to broaden and expand Martha as she develops in other directions for this more adult series. The Torchwood team are fabulous to work with and have made me very welcome.”

Creator of Torchwood, Russell T Davies, says: “Freema is a wonderful actress and we want to give her the chance to add another dimension to Martha. She is going to cause some waves in the team – especially as she joins Torchwood at a point when everything is going to change for one of them.”

Freema is one of many special guest stars appearing in the new series of Torchwood.

Richard Briers is the latest to join the line-up, playing Parker, a reclusive millionaire who is the keeper of alien secrets, much later in the series.

Alan Dale (Ugly Betty, Lost) and James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) have also been confirmed.

The second series of Torchwood begins on BBC Two in the New Year and Martha will be starring half way through the series, appearing in three episodes.

Torchwood is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales. The producer is Richard Stokes and the series is filmed in Cardiff.

I’m sad to say that I do still think, that Freema is being ever so SLIGHTLY sidelined. Why do I say This? Well being in 3 of TW and 5 of DW, does’ot a series make. what I mean is she is not a main player in any of the 2.

Sorry to say shes just a guest star in TW’s 2nd series -( In DW series 3 she had a Major role. I rather think that the BBC are trying so hard to brush her under the carpet (well someone is!!)
And if this is not sorted soon, she could end up on Holby City, then disappear without trace -(

I tend to believe in the c*ck up theory rather than the conspiracy theory, DB: RTD and the BBC have made a mistake. Quite what the consequences of it for Freema are remain to be seen. Who knows? The little guest slot on TW may actually be a stepping stone to a bigger role on the show if it got a third series, never mind anything that might happen with DW after S4. Also, I remember Freema saying in her Jonathan Ross interview that appearing on DW had already worked wonders for her acting career. Now either she means it’s enhanced her acting abilities or she means offers from elsewhere (not Holby *LOL*) are already coming in for her. Either way, I predict a bright future for her; she certainly deserves it.

Forgive me for asking, but what is Holby City? Is it some bad show with a less than stellar cast or a graveyard for hasbeens?
I agree DB, I can’t help but feel Freema been slightly sidelined, but I would like to believe it’s due to stupidity on the part of the BBC in hiring CT before they knew the results of season 3. They attempted to recoup from the bad move by gettng Freema into TW and some of the final shows in the next season of DW in which the scripts could still be tweaked, but no, it isn’t quite the same level of importance as being the full time companion by any means. Like bluemoon, I really hope she gets that bright future. She mentioned in an interview that she’d like to do a movie that appealed to her. I hope she does. As long as the movie has a good script and good story, I’m sure she would shine. Even the best actors and actresses can’t overcome poor scripts and story. You see it over and over unfortunately.

smile IN TV ZONE IT SAYS THAT MARTHAS EPISODES ARE SPLIT UP, AND THAT MARTHA IS IN THE FINALE, ALSO THAT MARTHA COMES INTO TW FROM EPISODE 6.

AND THE BIT THAT MADE ME SMILE; A DW SPOKESMAN “WHY WOULD WE RE-TOOL MARTHA AND MATURE HER PAST WHY WOULD WE WANT TO REMOVE HER AGAIN FROM THE DOCTOR. grin

Excuse me, GALLIFREYGIRL, while I leap over your post to answer klown’s. Holby City is a BBC hospital drama, a spin off from the better known Casualty. It’s not a bad show, as they go, but it’s not top notch as DW is. Unless you become a lead on it, you tend to end up being in one episode and getting killed or horribly mutilated.

GALLIFREYGIRL, that’s interesting news. Just how reliable is the source and who exactly is the spokesman being quoted?

GALLIFREYGIRL, if that is a reliable source, is that an indication that Martha could be back again after the season 4 finale? Wouldn’t that be sweet. It makes me smile too!
Thanks bluemoon, now I understand why it’s not so great to get a part in that show. I had heard Freema talking about a part she had in Casualty.

Sorry to say there’s no getting away still, from the fact that Freema is NOT in any of the two series enough to make any real impact!!! Having captain Jack in DW for the last 3 eps was fine, and it worked. But John Barrowman is the star in TW, so him being in 3 eps of series 3 is ok.

As for Freema, she is now in 2 shows, where, she is not one of the main STARS. And as I said before if Catherine Tate is good in her part, then she will be looked on as the DW companion, not Freema -( People have short memories, so if anyone is good in DW, it superceeds whatever happend before, Freema was a perfect case in point, she was so good in her part, that she made us think of her as the dw companion, not BP.

Let just hope that DW series 3 has kicked started Freemas career, We must remember, it does’ot matter how good an actress you are, if the phone dont ring thats it. And Freema does’ot even know yet if she will be acting in a years time or not.

Plenty of good actors are not working!!! I hope Freemas not one of them -(

DB, you’re on a real downer at the moment!
I predict a great acting future for Freema.
You can trust me on this!
