As fans in both the UK and US have now had a chance to eagerly buy and watch the Doctor Who Series 3 box set, an interesting discovery has come to light - the content for each region is not identical! One subtle but important difference is the commentary on the final episode “Last of the Timelords”.
Essentially the R2 PAL version of the DVD has a newer commentary by Freema, David and John Barrowman whilst the R1 NTSC (North American) version has the older/original commentary by Russell T Davies, Julie Gardiner and Phil Collinson.
So what have those in the states missed? In our opinion, an important bit would be during the moment where Martha Jones rings Tom Milligan to just see if he is okay - David Tennant teases Freema “he’s your boyfriend…” but then asks uncertainly whether Martha Jones does indeed hook up with him, and if it will get mentioned in Torchwood. John Barrowman responds with a quick “no” but then continues with “you’ll have to wait and see”. So John knows, but is not telling! Keep an eye on his interviews! (thanks to Doyle for spotting this)
Very interesting…
I’m still not sure why they made the two boxsets different
So, will the unlucky folks like me in the US ever get to hear David, Freema, and John’s commentary? Don’t get me wrong, RTD and the gang are fantastic, but come on, we wanna hear the stars, LOL!
“One Of These DVDs Is Not Like The Other…”
Surely that should be “Both of these DVDs are not like the other…”
Smirk.
Great website by the way - lord knows where you get all your pics and vids from.
And besides, you can hear RTD, Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson on the BBC Doctor Who website.
I hope Australia gets the newer one! Please, please, please, please, please……
Yeah, when IS it coming out here? I want it.
For Freema’s Australian (and Kiwi) fans, the Region 4 complete box set release is 5th Decemeber. It’s extremely likely you’ll get the proper commentary with Freema, David and John.
IF NOT YOU’LL HAVE TO BUY A MULTI-REGION DVD PLAYER AND GET THE UK BOX SET
it makes a nice change for us in region 2 land not to have errors for a change
Yep, you can preorder it from the abc shop (i dont know about anywhere else)
