Some updates for the new IDW Doctor Who comic books with Martha!
Starting January 2008 there will be a six issue comic book mini-series from IDW. Chris Ryall, publisher and editor-in-chief has stated that these are the first Doctor Who comics made exclusively for an American audience. The series is written by Gary Russell, drawn by Nick Roche and averages 32 pages per issue.
Gary Russell has said that the stories take place within the third series between episodes 7/8 9/10 and 10/11. Expect to see things they can’t do on television: “a huge space station with a bar full of aliens; a massive skyscraper exploding; a thirty foot tall cat rampaging through 1970s London, knocking buses flying; entire races of planets disappearing in a flash; People made of sand”.

January 2008: Doctor Who #1 - Gary Russell (w) Nick Roche (a) Nick Roche (c)
The legendary Doctor Who is back, with the first-ever stories created exclusively for the US market. The Doctor is the last of the Time Lords, survivors of a Great Time War and, along with his loyal friend and companion Martha Jones from London, they stop oppression, darkness and evil spreading throughout the galaxies. They’re also on the hunt for the best chocolate milkshakes in the cosmos… and while they track that down, someone else has the Doctor in their sights. As the very last Time Lord out there, he’s highly collectable, to the right people… this debut miniseries comes to you courtesy of Doctor Who TV show story editor Gary Russell and artist Nick Roche (The Transformers). Roche and variant artist Joe Corroney provide covers for each issue.
February: Doctor Who #2 - Gary Russell (w) Jose Maria Beroy (a) Nick Roche (c)
The Doctor and Martha discover a new talent in the art world during a visit to 1970s London. But are her sculptures hiding a deadly secret, and what lengths will her pushy agent go to in an effort to stop Martha unburying the truth… courtesy of Doctor Who TV show story editor Gary Russell and artist Jose Maria Beroy (Star Trek Alien Spotlight: Vulcans).
Novice hame!
Kooooool!
I’m awful with comics. If I don’t like the style of the art then I have a hard time reading it, and since this guy’s concept drawings I haven’t really seen the resemblance between the characters and the actors. So, I’m not feeling it really.
I guess reading the summaries is probably as far as I’ll go, unfortunately. Which is a shame because I’ve liked the other ones. And I LOVE Martha.
Looks cool, Martha’s cartoon looks like her.
That Nun looked like matron casp from new earth wow a member of my race in a doctor who comic i love being a cat person
will these comics co,me to britain
cat-person you might be able to get them off ebay or perhaps some shops will import them. But apparently they will not be sold directly to the UK according to IDW.
We are British. Doctor Who is British. Why the hell are we not getting these comics?
Why are there no comics in England? I can’t get Hatter.M. either. Unless I join Forbidden Planet. They’ll probably get the comics. There’s one in Covent Garden!!!
