Doctor Who Series 3 Start Date Speculation

There’s been quite a bit of discussion about the start date for Doctor Who series three and we’re just as excited as everyone - can’t wait to see Freema make her debut! However it’s important to note that no one really knows that magic day for certain yet. So everything you read on the net, even in the papers, is speculation, not fact.

We were betting on 7 April, however a very qualified source said on Sunday morning “end of March”. But don’t just take our word for it, listen for yourself (MP3) (more…)

Why Martha Looks Like Adeola, Or Maybe Not!

While it’s been a long standing occurrence on television, and Doctor Who in particular, for actors and actresses who play a small part on a show to come back later as another character (the sixth Doctor for example) some viewers initially were perplexed at the idea of Freema Agyeman being announced as Martha Jones so soon after they saw her perish as Adeola Oshodi.

It’s been said there would be some kind of (brief) explanation as to why Martha will look like Adeola, and now the folks at SFX believe they have discovered it within their preview copy of the first new Doctor Who novel featuring Matha: “Made of Steel” by Terrance Dicks (available 1 March under the “Quick Read” programme). But books are not necessarily considered “canon” (fact) in the Who universe and this revelation contradicts what Freema has said in interviews! (more…)

Freema Gets Animated For Doctor Who Story

The BBC has revealed that Freema’s character, Martha Jones, has been animated for a 13 part adventure called The Infinite Quest that will run weekly with the CBBC’s Totally Doctor Who. Each episode will be 3½ minutes long.

Freema says: I didn’t think my Doctor Who experience could get any more thrilling but I was absolutely blown away when they approached me about the new animation series! The prospect of becoming a cartoon character was both exciting and also a bit nerve-wracking as it was the first time I have been asked to do voice-over work.
But I needn’t have worried - my first session involved being in a small recording room with David, Anthony Head and Toby Longworth - and all of us falling about with laughter as we tried to match our words to the movements of the cartoon characters! It was such a fun experience and now I can’t wait to see how it all looks!

On her mark, Get set, Go!

Freema filming for Doctor Who August 9th 2006
Freema Agyeman gets ready for a scene during one of her very first days of filming for Doctor Who S3 as “Martha Jones”

Filming for Doctor Who series three has hit full speed in it’s second month.

With reports that they are now up to shooting a block of episodes three and six together (with episodes four and five next) we thought we’d pause for a moment and send Freema our collective love, wishing her the best for this highly anticipated new season. We can’t wait to see you in action!

We’d also like to speak-up about the mis-reported news on the telly and web, regarding series three not having any “non-earth” episodes. While we’re not the authority for Doctor Who, we do know that such statements are INCORRECT and are most likely said for dramatic effect, to reduce expectations.

It all spans from an article at the BBC where the lead writer/producer, Russell T. Davies, simply states in Doctor Who Magazine, that there aren’t many alien world episodes because of the expense and lower ratings they seem to get.

There is at least one off-world adventure, possibly two or more in store, but to be fair, we’d follow Martha *anywhere* on her new adventures with the Doctor!

Paging Doctor Martha Jones…

Martha goes to work at the 'Royal New Hope Hospital of London'
Dr. Martha in training: off to work
at “Royal New Hope Hospital”
(with stethoscope in pocket)

With the first official footage of “Martha Jones” in action still an agonizing four months away (via the trailer after the Doctor Who Xmas Special) there is precious little that fans know about the character played by Freema Agyeman. The only tidbit the BBC has told us is that she is a 23-year-old medical student and last week we learned she will have a sister and younger brother (as well as a mum and dad).

This lack of information has caused wild speculation about Martha. What would make a medical doctor-in-training with family ties, “run off” with a mysterious man in a blue box? Right from the start we assume she will be a very different character than Rose, as Freema has said that Martha will be “less in awe” of the Doctor (and therefore much more of a challenge to him).

One of the best “conspiracy theories” to materialise can be found on “Outpost Gallifrey”. Some extremely observant fans noticed that a year ago in “The Christmas Invasion” when the Doctor regenerated and passed out, Jackie fetches a stethoscope for Rose and mentions she got it from a (female) medical student. Was that Martha? (more…)
